Since I have not seen anyone else post the download link, I thought some might be interested.

The link below will take you to the download page for Vista RC2, which is currently available.

I recommend using the Akamai download manager link.

Note - this is for 32-bit version. [Edit - they have added the 64-bit as well]

Vista RC2 isn't so slow to download, I got it at around 590kbps

No, but it'll compensate for that by being frightfully slow to install and use. So don't go thinking that you've saved some time.

The install process time will depend on which method you use.

If you do a clean install, you can take advantage of the 'image' technology new in Vista installation process (which takes about 30 minutes, not including the key entry, partition option selections, and the performance assessment during final load).

If you do an upgrade, it will take up to 120 minutes due to the use of an 'XP' like installation process where hardware configuration, software configuration, and registry keys need to be written along with the OS file copying.

Speed of the OS will obviously depend in a large part upon the hardware of the machine it is installed on.

I run on a single core Pentium M processor based system, with a 533 Mhz FSB, 2 GB of RAM, mid-range ATI video (PCI express adapter) - all of which combine for a rating of '3.4' and works quite well.

I installed 5456 as a fresh install and it took me about 20 minutes for it to complete. (Then a couple of other drivers, but it didn't actually take much time.) However, when I upgraded to 5600 (RC1) it took about 3 hours. Same thing when I just upgraded to 5744 (RC2). A fresh install with Vista is fast, a upgrade takes aaaages.
My system is a DELL P4HT 2.8GHz, 1GB RAM, ATI Radeon 9800. (Windows Experience Index 4,1)

It'd most likely be quicker for me to back up the few files I had on the Vista partition (I keep most files on anohter HD anyways) and do a fresh install. It'd be quicker and I'd be sure I had a clean system.

Oh, btw, I mentioned earlier that I had trubble installing 5728 from a virtual DVD drive where as it would jsut fail when I clicked the Install button, with this build 5744 it works just fine. Saved me the hazzle of burning a DVD just for a one time use.

OMG! Here I am, posting from Vista. All seems smooth and slick, no problems to report (yet)

OK, Vista itself is quick, but the beta nVidia drivers (96.3.3) aint so good. UT2004 runs at 20fps instead of the 200+fps I'm used to, and there's no way to enable SLi... still, there's a long way to go.

If you need AV, then avast! 4 works fine. AVG was supposed to be ok but Vista blocks one of the files...

PSP 7.04 works ok too. So does Firefox (thankfully, I really don't like IE7).

It's ok as an experiment, but I'll most likely stick to XP when Vista is released.

nope, I couldnt run anything from the image, I will download again a different time, maybe it didnt download properly or something.

So the beta nVidia drivers are no good with vista right now. Has anyone tryed the ATI drivers with Vista gaming.

I do not know why you even bother with "vista". It is meant to obtain capital not to provide a true experience in computing. Go out and purchase a Windows XP 64-bit version and have some real fun!! "vista" is nothing more than a bell and whistle version for the mediocre user. Remenber the "Me" version ... ???? DO NOT BUY IT!!!
