A place where love is kept in the dream.
This is a brainstorming thread.....

I thought it might be good to start a thread for brainstorming ideas on features wanted in ObjectDock to give the developers some idea of what users want. Whether it is possible to implement is another story, but this is brainstorming after all.

I would like to see the addition of the following:

1 - Virtual/Dynamic Folder support

2 - Distance adjustment for 'Alignment' on top of the one for 'Position', allowing for adjustments in both the 'X' and 'Y' axis simultaneously.

What would you like to see?

Continuing the idea of a curved OD how about one that is a complete circle and could be expanding or contracted? I see a fair number of screenshots where people have arranged their icons in a circle around something so I know there are users who would use something like this if it was possible to create.

I'd like OD to be aware of changes to system variables (used to be 'environment variables' in the old days) and be able to pass them on to the apps that are launched subsequent to those changes.

Standard menus as default in the 'fly out menu' functionality no matter how many entries are in.

Good idea. I can already see it on wallpapers with a central "hubcap" theme

Widgets, widgets, widgets! Allow to import DesktopX widgets, similiar to Object Bar...or maybe just an improved version of SysStats...I use SysStats all the time, but I can't use all that I would like too...really puts a hurt on my pc...

Oh yeah-Widgets!

...

Virtual Desktop docklet.

...

Ability to hide icons in a systray dock!

...

Basically, you should be able to drag a file, like a .jpg, over a program shortcut in the dock, such as Photoshop or Paint Shop, and have it open in that program, rather whatever the default is when you double click the file.

...

Oh yeah-Widgets!

I second all of that. If they're going to add widget support I would vote for konfabulator widgets instead of desktopX ones. I want a hula girl in my dock!

Do the developers read these?

I see the devs comment on the forums a lot, and if they didn't know this thread existed, I'm sure someone told 'em about it. I don't know if they'll implement everything on here, but they probably know about our requests by now. Stardock is usually pretty good about responding to our feedback.

I most of the time I only use objectdock so an option to hide the desktop icons would be great added to it.

Hmm, it's easy enough to hide the desktop icons. To get rid of the Recycle Bin, you have to change your desktop to Active Desktop.

!! Big time ditto on hiding certain tray icons
+ Being able to force groupings on the tray icons
+ Able to add a Separator at the end of the tray dock, and have it stay at the end after new tray icons appear
+ Easier interface on tabbed docks to skin them - I'd like to be able to browse & pick a skin from the Dock Config screen

Some of the WindowFX effects would be great....for example, when the dock emerges from auotohide it has ripple/wave effects, etc.
